His life-long work with hens started early. He remembers, "My mother bought me twenty-four hens when I was ten years old. I joined the 4-H and was proud to be chosen secretary of our Poultry Club (there were three of us!)." He began his egg career in earnest in Bogota, Colombia in 1962. With a mix of entrepreneurship and business skill, he grew the company until 1977, when he sold the company in Colombia. Upon returning to the US, George began to research more about humane animal care as well as nutrition and health. With his newfound knowledge, he committed to having his hens be cage free and to create the healthiest egg he could. That is how The Country Hen came to be and produce eggs the old fashioned way. We are proud of the special way we produce eggs and we know you’ll taste the difference!
