Dear Egg Buyer,

Family History

I don't worry too much about eating eggs. I love them and try to eat two a day. My father loved them and ate two a day, and he lived to be 81; his father consumed two a day and lived to be 89; and his mother, Mrs. Zitella Bass ate two eggs per day and lived to be 105! But the official record might be held by an 88 year old who was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, March 28, 1991.

25 Eggs Per Day

The report reads: ''An 88 year old man who lived in a retirement community complained only of loneliness since his wife's death. He was an articulate, well-educated man, healthy, except for an extremely poor memory without specific neurologic deficits. He had been given a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and was intermittently depressed.''

Careful Record

''He always soft-boiled the eggs and ate them throughout the day. He kept careful record, egg by egg, of the number ingested each day. The nurse at the retirement home confirmed the daily delivery to him of approximately two dozen eggs.'' The eating pattern was described as compulsive due to complex factors.

His Cholesterol Count - 200

One of the amazing discoveries of the study was that his blood cholesterol was only 200! The other interesting finding was that the patient absorbed only 18% of the dietary cholesterol furnished by the eggs. The control subjects, on the other hand, absorbed 54.6% and 46.6% of the cholesterol. The man had an extremely efficient regulator mechanism.

'I Can't Help It'

When pressed about his habit, the patient responded ''Eating eggs ruins my life, but I can't help it.'' This subjective judgement has to be considered. But then one must ask, if eggs are bad why has he live so long? Why did my grandmother, Zitella, live to be 105 eating two eggs per day?

I Can't Help It Either

I love eating two Country Hen eggs per day. The whites don't run, the yolks stand tall and the taste is a reminder of times when food had more taste. I hope you will enjoy eating them as much as I do.

Please Write
